Locations and Storage Map
Design a location hierarchy that operators can understand and safely maintain.
Locations should mirror how people actually move through the lab. TARE now presents locations as a storage map with hierarchy, containment, assigned items, and deletion constraints visible up front.
Create the map
Start with rooms or major zones, then add freezers, cabinets, shelves, bins, racks, and boxes only where useful.
Assign inventory
Add items directly to a location, move items from item detail pages, or use scan intake when labels/photos are faster.
Respect blockers
TARE blocks deletion while child locations or inventory remain assigned. Move contents first, then retry.
Recommended hierarchy
- Site or building: Alexandria Lab, Warehouse B, Mobile Unit 1.
- Room or zone: Lab 304, Cold Storage, Flammables Room.
- Storage unit: Freezer 2, Flammables Cabinet A, Solvent Shelf.
- Position: Shelf 1, Rack B, Box C, Slot A1.
