Creating Cases and Samples

Create a case, add subjects and samples, and record custody handoffs.

Cases, subjects, samples, and custody events form the supported beta evidence workflow. Create them in order so each record has the right workspace and case context.

  1. Open Cases and create the case with a clear title, owner, status, and short purpose.
  2. Add subjects only when the case requires subject-level tracking.
  3. Create samples from the case or sample screen and link them to the right subject or case context.
  4. Record custody transfers when possession changes. Include the current custodian, receiver, timestamp, and reason.
  5. Export case or subject packets only through the dashboard export actions so the download is audited.

Identifier discipline

Use structured case, subject, and sample identifiers from the workflow where available. Avoid relying on free-text notes as the only critical identifier.
